Lorenzo Sonego advances in the Miami tournament and does so by beating a Dominic Thiem who continues to be far from his old self and suffers his eighth defeat out of nine matches in this 2023: the Austrian succumbs in two sets (7-6, 6-2) even having a set point cancelled in the first partial.
By contrast, the Piedmontese’s adventure at the Indian Wells tournament had come to an immediate end with the elimination suffered at the hands of Australian Jason Kubler.
In the second round in Miami Sonego will face Evans.
