The words of Angelo Binaghi

Important announcement by Angelo Binaghi for Rome: “In our 80-year history, this is the first time that the ATP and WTA have allowed us to have two tournaments that last two weeks with twice as many players as we were used to. It is a historic milestone that together with Sport and Health we have been chasing for a long time and it gives us greater prestige, greater value, greater opportunities for our players and especially for our public that for a long time had not been able to find space in this beautiful facility and, I think this is a topic of particular interest to the Councillor, also greater economic impact on the territory.

“The economic value that this event now reaches has a reference given by the market, it is the 385 million euros recently paid by IMG to buy the sister tournament to ours, the one in Madrid, and it represents a value that we created in full by taking over twenty years ago a tournament that was technically bankrupt and that today we continue to organize without a euro of public contribution. Instead, at the end of the tournament we will present the value of the economic impact we will generate on the territory. Last year it was estimated at 285 million euros and referred to the record 235,000 paying spectators, which we will obviously improve again.

“For the first time in history we have started the process that will lead us in just three years to equalizing the prize money of the women’s tournament with that of the men’s, which are not two pittances, we are talking about more than 8 million euros for each of them, and for the first time we will also have the women’s tournament in the padel major that we will organize in July in this same facility,” the federal president concluded.
