Monte Carlo, the draws: Djokovic spectrum for Jannik Sinner, a top 40 for Matteo Berrettini
Four Italians engaged in Monte Carlo
It promises to be a far from smooth path for the four Italian athletes involved in the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, scheduled for April 9-16.
Jannik Sinner, Italy’s number one ranked player, will start in the second round, where he will meet the winner of the match between Diego Schwartzman and David Goffin: if he passes the round, the eighth round could feature the obstacle Hubert Hurkacz, while the quarterfinals could feature a match of the highest level (and highest degree of difficulty) against Novak Djokovic.
On Nole’s way could be, at the level of the eighths, Lorenzo Musetti, who, however, will already have a difficult first round against Kecmanovic; also starting from the initial round will be Matteo Berrettini, who to shake off the rust of a negative period will have to beat Maxime Cressy, current number 38 in the ranking.
Fabio Fognini, who is injured, will not be there. The fourth Italian to start will be Lorenzo Sonego, who has been granted a wild card: the name of his first-round opponent will come out of the qualifiers. Should he pass the round, however, there would be Daniil Medvedev waiting for the Piedmontese, who like the other three Italians has been placed in the upper part of the tournament’s draw.
