The controversy reopens during the championship break.

Frederic Vasseur puts Red Bull back in the crosshairs, in his opinion penalized too lightly by the FIA for the budget cap issue. And in reopening the issue, Ferrari’s team principal chose to make statements to an extremely authoritative interlocutor: the ‘BBC’.

“I remain of my conviction, which is that the penalty against Red Bull was very light,” Vasseur said. “Consider that over the course of the season we can improve the performance of the car by something less than a second, in terms of aerodynamics. If a penalty comes that is equivalent to one-tenth of this time, then the loss will be one-tenth of a second.”

“This calculation is not linear, the data is probably less. But since money can also be spent in other areas, such as in weight management of the car, the penalty seems marginal to me. By this I don’t want to say that Red Bull didn’t do a good job, because honestly they did a very good job. And I’m not making excuses, not at all. But if you ask me if I find the penalty too light, my answer is yes,” Vasseur concluded.
