Lazio increasingly second in the standings: 2-1 to Juventus
A crucial victory, allowing them to secure second place.
Lazio knocks out Juventus at the Olimpico, at the end of a hard-fought match that ends with a 2-1 win for the hosts. Very important victory, which allows the biancocelesti to confirm second in the standings at +5 of Roma now third. With the 15-point penalty, however, the Bianconeri remain -8 from the Champions League and -4 from Europe.
Lazio were immediately very active at the start of the match, with Milinkovic-Savic twice dangerous with a header in the first quarter of an hour. The pace then dropped for a few minutes, only to rise again after the half hour: Immobile engaged Szczseny, then tried again on the development of a free kick. However, it was Milinkovic-Savic himself who scored in the 38th minute, taking advantage of Zaccagni’s assist and scoring while resisting Alex Sandro’s marking. Already in the 42nd minute, however, came the equalizer, when Rabiot settled a scrum on a corner after two interventions by Provedel.
After the restart, however, Lazio needed only a few minutes to take the lead again: in the 53rd minute it was in fact Zaccagni who took advantage of a splendid backheel assist from Luis Alberto to sign the winning goal. Milinkovic-Savic himself could sign the triad, but then Vlahovic came close to equalizing with a header before giving way to Milik. It was again Rabiot and Fagioli, however, who created the best bianconeri chances, while Lazio saw another Zaccagni goal cancelled out for offside.
