Lewis Hamilton and farewell to Mercedes: Toto Wolff has no doubts
If the champion has doubts, his boss does not share them.
Lewis Hamilton away from Mercedes is one of the hypotheses inflaming Formula 1 already at this early stage of the 2023 championship. If the British driver is not failing to emphasize that a change of team might not be ruled out, if to the benefit of a more competitive single-seater, to not want to consider this hypothesis seems instead to be Toto Wolff.
“It may sound like naive thinking on my part,” Wolff said in an interview granted to ‘Autosport,’ “but I really struggle to think about a plan B. Plan A remains my favorite, and it involves Hamilton’s confirmation in Mercedes.”
“I am not going to start discussions with other drivers, because I am satisfied with the ones we have in the team at the moment. I can say with certainty that right now an alternative plan B to Hamilton does not exist,” Wolff added.
“I feel ready to win another World Championship, I have prepared myself as best I can and if the right car arrives tomorrow I will be ready to fight for the title. But that is not, at least for now, the reality of the facts,” Hamilton had said in the previous hours. British media insist on the possibility of his move to Ferrari as early as the 2024 season.
