Matteo Berrettini commented on Instagram about forfeiting the Monte Carlo tournament

Matteo Berrettini was forced to forfeit the Monte Carlo tournament due to a second-degree oblique abdominal injury-a real cold shower for the Roman after his comeback match win over Cerundolo.

On Instagram the Azure vented all his frustration: “I don’t know where to begin…. I was finally finding my level and getting back to where I wanted to be….so it’s hard. I felt a pain in my obliques during yesterday’s match. The pain got much worse during the night. After consulting with my medical staff, we decided to have an MRI this morning.”

“I have a second-degree tear in the internal oblique muscle. I cannot thank you enough for your support. It means a lot and it is what gets me through these difficult times.”
