Jannik Sinner gives Lorenzo Musetti no chance: he is in the semifinals in Monte Carlo
Jannik Sinner wins the Italian derby with Lorenzo Musetti in Monte Carlo and reaches the semifinals of the Principality’s Masters 1000 for the first time in his career. All in all, an easy match for the South Tyrolean, who solid on serve disposes of the file in two sets with the partials of 6-2, 6-2 showing his current superiority over the Carrarese.
In the semifinals Sinner will face the other rising star Holger Rune, who beat Daniil Medvedev.
A one-sided first set, Sinner immediately got a double break and took advantage of Musetti’s response difficulties to quickly close out the first partial in 40′. Only in the last games did the Carrarese player seem to show signs of awakening, forcing the South Tyrolean to cancel a break ball.
After a hard-fought start in the second partial (Sinner nullifies two more break balls), the challenge quickly ends up in the favorite tracks of the world number 8, who in the third game hits the decisive break by taking advantage of a forgettable serve of his compatriot. Then the match is all downhill, Musetti loses confidence and suffers another break in the seventh game that dooms him.
