Camila Giorgi out and Slovakia makes up for Italy: Azzurre postponed to doubles decider
Slovakia-Italy 2-2
After a reassuring 2-0 win signed by Camila Giorgi and Martina Trevisan, Italy, without the Macerata tennis player due to a knee problem, was upended by Slovakia 2-2 in the Billie Jean King Cup finals qualifying match.
In the first singles match of the day, Jasmine Paolini, who took the court in place of Martina Trevisan, surrendered in three sets (1-6 6-4 4-6) to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in two hours of play after squandering a 3-games-to-zero lead in the deciding set.
Later it was Elisabetta Cocciaretto’s turn, deployed in place of the injured Camila Giorgi. The 22-year-old from Ancona succumbed in two sets (3-6 6-7) to Viktoria Kuzmova Hruncakova in one hour and twenty-five minutes of play.
Now it will be the turn of the pair formed by Martina Trevisan and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, opposing the Slovaks Viktoria Kuzmova Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova, to try to center qualification for the Finals
