Juventus still knocked out: Sassuolo wins 1-0, Europe further away
A new defeat, the second in a row, that may weigh heavily in the race toward Europe.
Juventus defeated in Sassuolo, where the hosts imposed themselves with the result of 1-0. For the Bianconeri, it is the second ko in a row in the league after the one on the field of Lazio. Despite Inter’s flop at San Siro with Monza, therefore, Massimiliano Allegri’s men remain -7 from the fifth place of the Nerazzurri and -4 from Atalanta (which, however, played one game less).
Allegri’s largely re-staffed lineup initially seemed to create no major problems for Juventus, so much so that the first big chance of the match had the signature of Kostic. Youngsters Barbieri and Fagioli also try to trouble Sassuolo, which gets away with attempts by Bremer and Paredes. The Emilians, however, do not just stand by and try with Bajrami, Pinamonti and Frattesi.
At the beginning of the second half it was Danilo’s header that came close to giving the Bianconeri the lead, then Sassuolo began to push. Frattesi is inaccurate, Perin intervenes on Lopez. The Juventus goalkeeper then performs a real miracle on Defrel’s framing, Gatti saves on the line on Henrique’s cutback. The hosts also hit a post with Bajrami and eventually found the lead: Defrel signed it in the 64th minute taking advantage of a lightness by Fagioli, who called back to the bench did not hide his deep frustration. In the final Consigli overcame Gatti and Rabiot, then Di Maria and Rabiot missed the equalizing shot.
