Masters 1000 Monte Carlo: first time for Andrey Rublev, Rune knocked out
A first time celebration after a long battle.
Andrey Rublev won the Monte Carlo ATP tournament, the first Masters 1000 of his career. In the final played on Monegasque soil, the Russian beat in 2 hours and 36 minutes Holger Rune, who had gotten the better of Jannik Sinner in the semifinals: 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 the scores of the three sets.
The first set was decided in the 12th game, with Rune able to break serve from his opponent after breaks and counterbreaks in the sixth and seventh games. Much less trouble for Rublev in the second set, in which the Dane immediately gave him the 1-0 break and then lost two more in the last four games (all of which went to Rublev). The latter then managed to recover from 0-3 in the deciding set, taking the 6-5 break and closing the score one game later.
