F1, Marko reveals glaring error on Lewis Hamilton
Red Bull executive Helmut Marko has revealed to Bild that he advised Mercedes in the past to sign Lewis Hamilton. A mistake that later turned out to be crucial, given the British driver’s dominance over the past decade with the German stable: “I had told Niki Lauda about Lewis Hamilton and his willingness to change teams if the opportunity arose.”
“My decision to move Lewis Hamilton to Mercedes was not dictated by good cause: at the time, we believed it would be better for our team if he drove for Mercedes rather than McLaren, which was his team at the time and they were very strong. Looking back, it turns out that my decision was totally wrong.”
“I could not have predicted this outcome at the time, but being aware of what happened makes me realize that I should never make that mistake again,” Marko confessed.
