Lorenzo Musetti: “Jannik Sinner opened my eyes.”
Lorenzo Musetti wants to take a rematch against Jannik Sinner
Lorenzo Musetti defeated Cameron Norrie in a comeback (3-6 6-4 6-1), earning him access to the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 in Barcelona where he will once again face Jannik Sinner, a week after the two last met in Monte Carlo, then won by the South Tyrolean.
The Carrara-based tennis player is eager for revenge: “I’m pumped up to try to take my revenge and replay with Jannik after last week’s defeat, and I hope to approach the match better from a technical and tactical point of view.”
“I took I won’t say a wake-up call, but it certainly opened my eyes,” continued the number two Italian tennis player, returning to the Monte Carlo challenge. “I hadn’t gone in with the right mentality; I was feeling very tired since the morning; instead of overcoming that physical fragility I was feeling I dragged it on and Sinner was good at affecting it right away. And that is what must not happen tomorrow. Jannik is in great shape; we hadn’t played against each other since Antwerp; it was a different surface. It will be good tomorrow to face each other again a week later, whether I win or lose. There are lessons to be learned from every match. I came here with the right mindset.”
“If he is better obviously I will accept defeat. Jannik is playing great tennis. The feeling is that he has improved a lot especially on the forehand; I have seen great improvements, also in terms of physicality. With his serve today he was a little erratic, but an opponent like Nishioka is annoying, he takes so much out of your time. I hope to break him tomorrow as well. It will be an open match and we will see who will prepare better,” concluded Musetti.
