Athletics, Jacobs doesn’t hide: one-on-one challenge to Kerley
The two will meet again on the track at the World Championships in Budapest (Aug. 19-27)
They do not like each other; in fact, there is a major rivalry between them. Jacobs is tired of Kerley’s shenanigans, and after the spat via social media, a proposal also comes from the Olympic champion from Italy. A track challenge, one-on-one, boxing match style.
“The ideal would be a one-on-one challenge, like in the boxing rings and as happened in Toronto in 1997 with a highly anticipated 150 between Canadian Donovan Bailey and American Michael Johnson, the sprint kings of those days. Indeed, the ultimate would be a three-race series: one at my home, one at his home and one, the beautiful one, on a neutral field, perhaps right at the World Cup. While respecting the tradition and sanctity of our sport, to attract young people and sponsors, we need to find new formats,” Jacobs’ words to Gazzetta dello Sport.
One fact is certain, at the upcoming World Championships (Budapest, Aug. 19-27), the two will be in the spotlight. Everyone wants to know who is the real king of the 100 meters.
