Italy sent its sixth match of the World Mixed Doubles Championships into the archives.

On the ice at the Gangneung Curling Centre, Stefania Constantini and Sebastiano Arman (both Fiamme Oro), coming off 2 wins and 3 losses, faced the Netherlands.

The challenge against Vanessa Tonoli and Wouter Gösgens began with an interlocutory “back-and-forth” that brought the score to 1-1 after two ends.

In the third end the Azzurri began to make a difference, scoring three points. The Oranje tried to respond in the fourth segment, only managing to shorten the distance. They therefore went to rest on 4-3.

Italy made the most of their opponents’ blunders to hoist themselves to 6-3 in the fifth end. After that, Constantini/Arman took the decisive lead by stealing the sixth hand.

The solid 8-3 lead allowed them to manage the final two partials and enabled the Azzurri to prevail with a score of 8-6.

So third victory for the Italian tandem, followed on site by technical director Claudio Pescia and coach Violetta Caldart.

Stefania Constantini and Sebastiano Arman, still fully in the running for a place in the play-offs, will take on host South Korea on Wednesday 26 (start at 3:00). After that, on the European morning (from 11 a.m.), they will take the ice in the crucial match against Estonia.
