Lecce, Strefezza’s penalty is enough: Udinese beaten
A narrow victory, which can weigh heavily, however, in the salvation race.
Lecce victorious again in Serie A, after a string of eight league games in which only one point had come. The Giallorossi broke the spell by beating Udinese 1-0 at the Via del Mare, momentarily moving back to +5 points over third-last-place Verona. The Scaligeri will play next Sunday on the field of Cremonese.
Lecce, more motivated than the guests, tried already in the very first minutes with a free kick by Strefezza just outside. Dangerous then Colombo, Blin and Lovric, while on the other side Gallo is crucial on Ehizibue. In the final minutes, however, it is Falcone who opposes Bijol and Lovric’s splendid backhander.
Resumption favorable to Lecce, which opened the second half with a too-weak header by Di Francesco. Then Udogie knocks Gendrey down in the box, the Var awards the penalty and Strefezza scores it in the 61st minute. It was already the winning goal, with Falcone avoiding trouble on Ehizibue’s attempt and seeing Nestorovski’s header in the midst of recovery go just wide.
