Spezia-Monza 0-2

Monza goes on to win 2-0 on the field of Spezia and further mislead the Whites.

There is more Spezia in the beginning, with the “biancorossi” struggling on the offensive flurries of the hosts. Di Gregorio performs a real miracle on Kovalenko, alone in the center of the area, and soon after, as often happens in soccer everything changes. Ciurria, in the 21st minute, controlled and let off a left-footed, roundabout conclusion on which Dragowski could do nothing: the ball hit the inside post and went in. The Brianzoli number 84, a former Ligurian, does not exult as the ‘Picco’ goes silent for a few seconds. Semplici’s team takes the blow but Amian, in the 34th minute, hits an undisturbed header: high ball. Monza plays calmly and Dany Mota, in acrobatics, does not go far from 2-0: Dragowski is not surprised at the first post. The Pole, shortly after, is decisive on a Carlos Augusto raid. Teams go to rest on 1-0 guest lead.

We restart after the break and Spezia immediately tries to push: Bastoni tries from the distance but does not trouble Di Gregorio. Monza does not get crushed and goes close to doubling again with… Kovalenko: the former Atalanta player, with a clumsy aerial deflection, forces Dragowski to overtime. The local fans go wild, clamoring for the players in white to bring out their attributes: Semplici, on the other hand, pulls out three players at once (out come Verde, Kovalenko and Bastoni, in come Agudelo, Cipot and Reca). Palladino responds with Machin and Birindelli in place of Rovella and Colpani. Amian, from outside, calls Di Gregorio to an easy intervention just before a Birindelli raid creates havoc in Dragowski’s sides. At home Monza, space is also given to Petagna (out comes Caprari), who poorly finalizes a counterattack by giving a ball too long to Ciurria: shortly afterwards the author of the biancorosso goal knocks Esposito down and is immediately substituted (Valoti enters, Dany Mota also leaves for Sensi): the free kick kicked by Esposito goes just out. Semplici also throws Krollis into the fray, Agudelo is the one with the most verve m when he has the good ball he either fails to finish or shoots high, as with 5′ to go. Petagna on a counterattack comes close to making it 2-0, Spezia throws balls into the box, but Monza defends neatly and, in the midst of recovery, scores again with a textbook counterattack set up by Sensi, continued by Machin and finalized by Carlos Augusto, who leaves Dragowski no chance.
