Italbasket, Darius Thompson hypothesis: former Brindisi sends message
Darius Thompson does not rule out blue.
With the attentions of the national team’s staff focused on the World Championships in late August-early September, the question of Paolo Banchero’s choice is not the only one on the table. Among the ‘papabili’ for joining the final roster at Gianmarco Pozzecco’s disposal in the rainbow review is also Darius Thompson, and it was the former Brindisi himself, currently at Baskonia, who admitted that he does not want to exclude the Azzurri hypothesis.
“It’s a possibility that I will consider,” the 1995-class guard, formerly of Happy Casa Brindisi, told ‘Backdoor Podcast.’ “It would be exciting to play for the national team, although for the moment, being 100 percent focused on Baskonia, I haven’t spoken with anyone from the Azzurri staff, but only with my agent, telling him that I will think about it when the season is over.
“I would never have believed, years ago, that I would be able to play for a European national team, but a few things have changed and I married an Italian girl,” clarified Thompson, who then makes himself available at least for an interview with head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco.
