Matteo Arnaldi, the adventure in Madrid is over.

Matteo Arnaldi’s surprising adventure at the Madrid Masters 1000 ended in the round of 16. The 22-year-old Ligurian, after a resounding victory against Ruud, succumbed in three sets against Spaniard Jaume Munar, world number 88.

Arnaldi, after winning the first set 6-3, succumbed in the second with the same result after wasting a break point in the third game. From there the Sanremese player went into a crisis of confidence and began to miss shots: the third set had no history, Munar winning 6-1 securing the round of 16. Arnaldi, who could enter the Atp Top 100 ranking next Monday, has won three career matches on the major circuit.
