MotoGP, Fabio Quartararo doesn’t fit: “Long Lap? I am surprised”
After the incident and the penalty, comes the controversy.
Fabio Quartararo was the protagonist at the Spanish Grand Prix of a contact with Miguel Oliveira that caused the Aprilia’s Portuguese rider to retire. The result was a Long Lap imposed against him by MotoGP, which contributed to the Frenchman’s 10th place finish. Who, however, disputed it at the end of the day.
“Bezzecchi was in front, I was in the middle. I had no other solution,” Quartararo explained about his crash. There was no way to avoid contact, I tried to brake and stop but it was not possible. I don’t know who I hit first, but Oliveira’s bike caught my clutch so I hit Bezzecchi.”
The real problem, however, according to Quartararo was the Long Lap: “A decision that surprised me, and for which I don’t see a reason – complained the Yamaha centaur -. Meregalli went to the race direction, but he didn’t get a clear explanation. It seems to us there was nothing strange.”
Quartararo also took stock of his physical condition after the events in Jerez: “It hurts a little, but fortunately I have nothing broken. Just a bump.”
