Camila Giorgi, heart-in-throat injury: Internazionali d’Italia in the balance
Further medical assurances are awaited, but there is little optimism.
Camila Giorgi sees the Internazionali d’Italia increasingly looking like a pipe dream. The Marche player was injured during her match at the WTA Madrid tournament against Egyptian Mayar Sherif, and now her own social updates put her participation in the Rome tournament increasingly in the balance.
As she herself communicated on Instagram, Camila Giorgi is struggling with an “osteochondral lesion in the central region of the femoral trochlea with a maximum longitudinal diameter of approximately 10 mm.” In other words, it is a knee cartilage injury, for which the recovery time is to be monitored and evaluated constantly.
The problem arises from the schedule: the Internazionali d’Italia will in fact begin on Tuesday, May 9, a time frame that risks not being enough for Camila Giorgi to regain at least a sufficient state of form.
