F1, Ferrari: Frederic Vasseur bluntly on Charles Leclerc’s future
Frederic Vasseur sweeps away doubts about Charles Leclerc’s future
Despite his place on the podium at the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, rumors about Charles Leclerc’s future are not extinguished, particularly those concerning his contract expiring in 2024 and a possible move to Mercedes.
Toto Wolff, speaking to ‘Sky Sport Deutschland,’ tried to play fireman (“Did I talk to him? Yes, but only to find out where the coffee at the airport was best,” he had said jokingly); Frederic Vasseur was more assertive and, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Azerbaijani weekend, he quipped, “These rumors have nothing concrete, I understand that at this stage of the season there is a lot of talk about the market, but Charles loves Ferrari. He has repeated it several times, the talk is closed.”
Leclerc came to Ferrari through the Maranello-based manufacturer’s Academy in 2016. Two years later he made his F1 debut in Sauber, in 2019 his first season in the Red. Since then he has scored five wins and 18 pole positions, placing second overall in the drivers’ standings in the 2022 World Championship.
