Madrid, bitter derby also for Rublev, Kachanov advances to quarterfinals
The Madrid Masters 1000 quarterfinals begin with two surprises in the two Russian derbies. Tournament surprise Aslan Karatsev deservedly overcame a very nervous Daniil Medvedev in two sets with a 7-6 6-4 result. In the quarterfinals the world number 89 will face the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Zhang Zhizhen.
Also coming out of the derby defeated is defending Monte Carlo champion Andrey Rublev, who had to surrender in two sets to compatriot Karen Khachanov with a score of 7-6 6-4. In the next round the world number 11 will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev.
