Bordeaux shock: observer sick with malaria in Africa dies
French soccer has been shaken by the death of Christian Larièpe, one of Bordeaux’s leading scouts. Larièpe, 63, had been operating in Africa for some time and had fallen ill with malaria in Cameroon: he had been rushed to hospital in recent days.
An important exponent of French youth soccer, he had also worked with Marseille, Nantes (of which he was also the interim coach for a few weeks) and Lille and was a regular figure at the various youth tournaments in Africa, looking for emerging talent. Larièpe was due to travel to Senegal in the coming days, again on behalf of Bordeaux.
