Matteo Berrettini, bitterness Internationals: back in top 20, but misses Rome
A return to the top, accompanied by great bitterness.
Matteo Berrettini has relaunched himself in the ATP rankings, but continues to face major problems on the physical front. In fact, the Roman player has made his absence from the Internazionali d’Italia official, due to the well-known oblique discomfort that has conditioned his last few months. A great bitterness for him, which joins the revival that has come in recent weeks.
Scrolling through the world rankings, in fact, we see that Matteo Berrettini has reclaimed the top 20 of the ATP ranking by placing himself right in 20th place with 1,832 points. However, he will not be able to defend it in Rome precisely because of his forfeit. The Italians currently ahead of him are Lorenzo Musetti, who is nineteenth at 1,960 points, and Jannik Sinner who has 3,525 and is eighth.
“I clung to the hope of playing in Rome, a tournament that means a lot to me and where, probably, all my dreams began. Unfortunately, however, the results of the latest MRI showed that I need at least another week before I can start training physically again,” Berrettini had said in announcing his absence from the Internazionali d’Italia.
