AG2 Citroen’s Frenchman Aurelien Paret-Peintre won the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia, 175 km from Venosa to Lago Laceno, beating Dsm’s Andreas Leknessund of Norway in a sprint to take the pink jersey ousting Belgian Remco Evenepoel.
The race was decided on the Colle Molella gpm with 3 km to go: the two detached five other breakaway companions, with whom they had characterized today’s stage, and played for the success, which was easy prerogative of the transalpine, while the Scandinavian was rewarded with the symbol of the supremacy in the general classification.
Third at 57 seconds was Latvia’s Toms Skujyns ahead of Vincenzo Albanese, while the men’s classification group came in at 2’01”. Leknessund leads the overall by 28 seconds over Evenepoel. Tomorrow’s fifth stage, Atripalda-Salerno of 171 km, a fraction for sprinters who, however, will have to hold on to the climbs of the first half of the stage.
