Lorenzo Sonego in Rome thinks back to Djokovic: “Unforgettable semifinal.”
The return home cannot be separated from the memory of the great challenge of two years ago.
Lorenzo Sonego will be one of the most anticipated participants at the Internazionali d’Italia, where he will make his debut on Thursday against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. In presenting his participation in the Foro Italico tournament, however, he returned to talk about the semifinal played in 2021 against Novak Djokovic.
“Of the participation in that tournament I remember everything,” were Sonego’s words collected by ‘Corriere dello Sport.’ “From the cramps I had to face in the first match against Monfils to the semifinal against Djokovic, everything is printed in my mind. Strange was the match with Thiem, but the team gave me courage. And the match point canceled was the key.”
Despite a not-so-easy start to 2023, in which he made it to the quarterfinals in Dubai and Montpellier at best, Sonego nevertheless remains optimistic. “So far the year has been positive anyway, it has served me to gain new experiences. Now, however, the Foro Italico awaits me, where there is an atmosphere that always helps me to give my best. I can’t wait to go there,” stressed the Turin native.
