Women’s Italian Internationals: Cocciaretto wins and convinces, Errani overwhelmed by Pavlyuchenkova
Two losses and one win in today’s first three matches of the Internazionali d’Italia women’s tennis tournament in which the Italians were involved.
A pity for Matilde Paoletti, world number 294, who ahead 3-1 in the third set against Poland’s Magdalena Frech, exactly 200 places ahead of her in the rankings, ended up losing 4-6 6-2 7-5
Sharp defeat for Sara Errani, who cashed in a double 6-1 loss to Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, like her a finalist at Roland Garros but currently World No. 506 (Errani is 78) as she is back from a serious knee injury.
Finally, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, number 45, landed in the second round with a convincing 6-3 6-0 win over the U.S. Lauren Davis, number 53, who had beaten her in January in the final on the Hobart cement. The 22-year-old from the Marche region will now face Russia’s Anastasia Potapova.
