Davide Bais chose the first uphill finish of Giro d’Italia 106, the Gran Sasso d’Italia (Campo Imperatore) – Montagna Pantani, to inaugurate his palmares at the end of a long day in the breakaway in the company of Karel Vacek and Simone Petilli.

“The last kilometers were very nice,” said the Eolo-Kometa Cycling Team rider. I was able to stay on the wheel of my breakaway companions on the toughest section and, the closer the finish, the more I had confidence as I was aware that I was the fastest of the trio. I’m happy, I didn’t raise my arms until I crossed the finish line because I wanted to make sure I was uncatchable. I don’t know if this victory will change my life but it will definitely remain an indelible emotion. I will see if I can fight for the blue jersey.”
