Giro d’Italia 2023: success for Healy in stage 8. Leknessund still in pink jersey

EF Education- Easy Post’s Irish rider Ben Healy won the eighth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2023 by finishing ahead of everyone in 4h 44′ 24″, the 207 km from Terni to Fossombrone: beaten in the sprint by Canadian Dereck Gee (Israel-Premier Tech) and Italian Filippo Zana ( Team Jayco-AlUla).

At the end of the race, the Kingswinford native commented on his newly achieved success, “I started from a distance, I thought it was the right strategy. I didn’t want to lose the chance to win. It’s a good day and an important win for the team and for myself. I have always done well in Italy, even before I turned pro. Racing here suits me and I hope more successes will come.”

There is also joy for Andreas Leknessund of Team DSM, who once again managed to keep the Pink Jersey: “It’s a relief to be able to keep the Pink Jersey after such a tough finish. I expect several attacks along the last climb. I probably wouldn’t have raced like this if I hadn’t been wearing it. To have defended it is also a credit to my team,” these were the words of the Norwegian at the end of stage 8.
