Remco Evenepoel unbeatable in time trial at Giro 2023
Remco Evenepoel is confirmed as unbeatable against the clock at the Giro d’Italia 2023: after winning the opening time trial in Ortona, the Belgian cyclist of Soudal Quick-Step also made Sunday’s time trial starting in Savignano sul Rubicone and finishing in Cesena, at the end of a 35-kilometer course. Beaten by just 1″ Geraint Thomas and 2″ Tao Geoghegan Hart, both of whom ride for Ineos Grenadiers.
Evenepoel also regains the pink jersey, lost in the stage to Lago Laceno: his advantage in the general classification is 45″ over Thomas and 47″ over Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), sixth today at 17″ from the stage winner.
The best of the Italians in the time trial was Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious), tenth at 42″. The Sicilian is also the best Bel Paese athlete in the general classification, where he occupies eighth place, 2’13” behind Evenepoel.
