NBA, Phoenix Suns fire coach Monty Williams
Coach leaves the bench after four seasons
Elimination in the conference semifinals at the hands of the Denver Nuggets cost Monty Williams dearly, who, as reported by ESPN, is no longer the coach of the Phoenix Suns. Mat Ishbia, the franchise’s owner, made the decision after the defeat in Game 6 that spelled the end of the Suns’ run in the postseason.
Williams won an NBA Coach of the Year award and reached the NBA Finals helping resurrect the franchise after, for years, it had been the laughingstock of the league. According to ESPN, Monty Williams had a guaranteed contract of more than $20 million per season for the next three years. At present, it is not known who will sit in his place on the Suns bench.
