Rome: no dice for Marco Cecchinato

Marco Cecchinato’s run in Rome stops in the third round. The Sicilian tennis player, after eliminating top-ranked McDonald and Bautista in earlier rounds, was defeated by a qualifier, German Yannick Hanfmann.

The world number 101 won in three sets with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, clinching the Internazionali d’Italia round of 16 for the first time in his career. Nothing to do for Cecchinati, who felt the fatigue of the last few days: the great support of the Foro Italico crowd was not enough to get him out of trouble.

Hanfmann will now face the winner of the match between Rublev and Davidovich Fokina.
