Jannik Sinner eliminated from the Internazionali d’Italia

Jannik Sinner’s adventure at the Internazionali d’Italia 2023 stopped in the round of 16: the South Tyrolean was defeated 6(3)-7, 6-2, 6-2 by Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, number 31 in the ATP rankings.

A good start to the first set (immediately a game won on his opponent’s serve) was not enough for Sinner to take the lead. In fact, Cerundolo recovered a break disadvantage twice, but left the San Candido native to dominate the tie-break.

Quite different was the trend in the rest of the match: Sinner immediately goes down 0-3 in the second set and fails to recover, in the third he goes down 0-2 and, despite his efforts (two match points cancelled before the decisive one) he fails to avoid the knockout.

It will therefore be Cerundolo who will face Ruud in the quarterfinals, in front of the Rome audience.
