F1, Imola GP stop: the words of Domenicali and the FIA
The decision to cancel the Imola Grand Prix because of the flooding in Emilia-Romagna was commented as follows by the top management of Formula 1: “My thoughts and those of the entire FIA family are with the people affected by the terrible situation in Emilia-Romagna,” said FIA President Ben Sulayeem. The safety of everyone involved and the recovery efforts are the top priority at this time.”
Thus Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali: “It is such a tragedy what happened at Imola and to Emilia-Romagna, the city and region where I grew up. My thoughts and prayers go out to the flood victims and the families and communities affected.”
“I want to express my gratitude and admiration for the incredible emergency services who are working tirelessly to help those in need and alleviate the situation-they are heroes and all of Italy is proud of them. The decision that has been made is the right one for everyone in the local communities and for the F1 family as we need to ensure safety and not create additional burdens for the authorities as they deal with this terrible situation.”
