Giro d’Italia: Tao Geoghegan Hart falls and withdraws
The Giro continues to lose its most valuable pieces. After Filippo Ganna and Remco Evenepoel, both of whom were stopped by Covid, Tao Geoghegan Hart, the 2020 trumpeter, also retired today, but for a fall.
The 28-year-old Londoner crashed 67 kilometers from the finish of stage 11, the 219-kilometer Camaiore-Tortona. Alessandro Covi of UAE Team Emirates slipped due to the wet asphalt causing the Briton, pink jersey Geraint Thomas and Pavel Sivakov, both of Ineos Grenadiers as Tao, to fall.
While the others got back up, Geoghegan Hart, who we recall was third in the general classification, remained on the ground and was taken away in an ambulance. Fractures in his pelvis are feared for him.
