Nico Denz wins and points out, “Lousy cooperation.”
The stage at Nico Denz
Nico Denz (Bora – Hansgrohe) won stage 12 of the 106th Giro d’Italia, the 185-kilometer Bra-Rivoli. In second and third place were Toms SkujiÅš (Trek – Segafredo) and Sebastian Berwick (Israel – Premier Tech), respectively. Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) retains the overall leader’s Pink Jersey.
“This is a really important win for me,” Denz said, “I’m very proud. I should not have been in the breakaway. It was up to Patrick Konrad and Bob Jungels. Bob said he was not at his best and preferred to save energy to help Lennard Kämna on Friday, so I had to replace him in the race. When I looked around in the breakaway there were only great riders. The cooperation was bad, however, I found myself in the lead. I knew the finish well and was able to sprint as I wanted.”
