Women’s Italian Internationals: Elena Rybakina second finalist

Elena Rybakina is the second finalist of the Internazionali d’Italia women’s tennis tournament at the Foro Italico in Rome. The reigning Wimbledon champion, world number 6, Russian by birth but defending the colors of Kazakhstan, in the second semifinal beat Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, number 20, 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 33 minutes of actual play.

Why actual? Because rain once again plagued the Capital: this match started with a quarter of an hour delay, then was broken at 6-2 2-4 (with Ostapenko being ahead 4-1), then a first attempt was made which was in turn broken on the 15-40 Ostapenko serve, finally the final resumption, in which there was no more match.

Tomorrow Rybakina, like her opponent, Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, will play her first final in a WTA 1000 and will go in the hunt for her fifth title on the major circuit, while her opponent will seek her second career success.
