Juventus is gone: Allegri overwhelmed in Empoli, Champions League far away
Juventus experienced a Monday to forget in Empoli: the Bianconeri were defeated 4-1 by the hosts in the post-match match of the 36th day of Serie A. Allegri’s team, which shortly before taking the field learned of the 10-point penalty that caused it to sink to seventh place in the standings, foundered at the Castellani under the blows of Caputo and his teammates.
After a good start by the Bianconeri, with a goal cancelled out to Gatti for a foul by Bremer, it was Caputo who unlocked the result in the 18th minute on a penalty kick awarded for Milik’s foul on Cambiaghi. Four minutes later came Luperto’s double on the development of a Fazzini corner. Juventus looked for a reaction and came close to 1-2 with Rabiot and Bremer, but finally collapsed in the second half in the 48th minute, when Alex Sandro had the ball blown away by Akpa Akpro who served Caputo, who was good at going over Szczesny with an underhand shot.
Preventing the Turin side’s collapse was the Polish goalkeeper, who thwarted Fazzini’s four-timer in the 57th minute. Allegri tried to shake up his side with the entries of Kean, Di Maria and Chiesa; in the final minute of the game, the son of art himself found the goal of pride with a strong low shot off an assist from Rabiot. At the expiration, however, came the Tuscans’ final 4-1, signed by Piccoli with a great shot.
In the standings, Empoli climbs to 14th place with 42 points, Juventus is seventh at 59, five points from the Champions zone when there are two days left.
