John McEnroe reassures Jannik Sinner and warns Carlos Alcaraz
John McEnroe warns Carlos Alcaraz: “He will have more pressure than anyone.”
During an interview at the microphones of the Spanish newspaper portal ‘Marca,’ 4-time US Open winner and 3-time champion at Wimbledon, John McEnroe, commented on the transition period tennis is going through and especially on young upstarts such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune.
“The first thing is to be healthy. Jannik is having a lot of physical problems, which sometimes depends on the excessive pressure he has to take. I don’t know if he trains too much or too little. I know he signed with Darren Cahill to step up and there are times when he looks like he can make the leap. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t win a Slam soon. I am sure that when the physical problems fade away, his confidence will increase,” said the former U.S. tennis player.
“I think at Roland Garros the favorites will be Alcaraz and Djokovic. We are at the end of a historical era for tennis, and others like Carlos and Rune are ready to start a new era. Especially the Spaniard, because he has shown that he is more ready than the other youngsters. I’m sure he will have more pressure than anyone else,” John McEnroe quipped.
