Jannik Sinner, Simone Vagnozzi explains the difference with Carlos Alcaraz
Simone Vagnozzi explains the difference between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Having dispelled the disappointment of Rome, Jannik Sinner is ready to get back into the game in the second Slam tournament of the season, Roland Garros. On the sidelines of the first Paris training session, the San Candido native’s coach, Simone Vagnozzi, spoke to ‘Corriere dello Sport’ about his feelings on the eve of the tournament and drew comparisons between Sinner himself and the other great talent of the new generation of champions, Carlos Alcaraz.
“Jannik has the tennis to be able to play with anyone and this year, except in the Miami final to which he arrived a bit ‘cooked,’ he has amply demonstrated this,” Vagnozzi explained. “The difference is that Alcaraz is world No. 1. Carlos has already won so much and, although younger than Sinner, has manifested more experience in the final stages of major tournaments. Jannik has to continue on his own path, which in our opinion is the right one.”
On the Parisian prospects, Vagnozzi goes down flat: “Nadal and Djokovic have accustomed us badly, the holy monsters practically never lost,” he said. “Instead, today defeats come for everyone, this is the norm. I’m sure that even in the early rounds here in Paris some surprises will come. Hopefully, Jannik will start well, and along the way we will see where he can go.”
