Novak Djokovic forgets Jannik Sinner and apologizes
Novak Djokovic in a press conference on the eve of the start of Roland Garros listed possible rivals for the final victory: “Carlos Alcaraz is number one and probably the big favorite at Roland Garros. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev have started playing great on clay. Then there’s Holger Rune, Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev who know how to take on big tournaments and can beat anyone.I think the tournament is pretty wide open.”
The Serbian tennis player then returned to the issue, making an important addition: “I mentioned some of the names that are at the top of the list of favorites, but I forgot Jannik Sinner. I am sorry about that. He will be one of the leaders of the next generation along with Alcaraz and Rune. Many people are talking about this great new rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner because they have had some epic matches in the last 12 months.”
“Rune is a player who deserves to be in that conversation and to be mentioned as one of the leaders of the next generation, one of the best players in the world. His tennis and the results he is getting are a testament to how good he is. I lost to both Rune and Alcaraz. They both impressed me on the court, including the way they handle pressure. I think these guys are very mature for their age.”
