Roland Garros women’s: Camila Giorgi in the second round
Nice debut for Camila Giorgi in the women’s singles at Roland Garros. With all the crowd against, the 31-year-old from Marche won her first-round match against a mangy opponent such as home favorite Alizé Cornet.
6-3 6-4 was the score in Camila’s favor at the end of nearly an hour and three quarters of battle and tense moments that were diluted with a beautiful handshake and clarification with smiles at the end of the match-a jarring contrast to the handshake avoided by Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk against Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in one of her previous matches.
Camila lost her serve four times out of ten, so much so that she was down 2-4 in the second set, but she snatched it seven times out of nine from Alizé. Now the Italian awaits the winner of the U.S. derby between Danielle Collins and Jessica Pegula.
