Novak Djokovic before the Davis Cup clash with Spain defended Carlos Alcaraz, and indirectly also Jannik Sinner, for saying no to their national teams’ call-ups for the prestigious tournament for nations.

Without Alcaraz and Sinner, both Spain and Italy were beaten on the first day of the Davis Cup group stage by the Czech Republic and Canada, respectively.
