There'è great expectation among insiders and cycling fans for the road race that will assignà the men's European champion title on Sunday: Italy will line up eight athletes and betà not only on Filippo Ganna, but also on Matteo Trentin and, should the situation require it, on a sprint specialist like Elia Viviani. The other blue athletes are Edoardo Affini, Mattia Cattaneo, Matteo Sobrero, Luca Mozzato and Andrea Pasqualon.

Head coach Daniele Bennati presented the event to the official Federciclismo channels:"It's a 200-kilometer race, so we expect a very eventful race from the first kilometer. The team is fine, the guys are all convinced that they can make a great race".

"According to the race situation we will set the best tactics – then explained Bennati, who did not è want to go into too much detail from the point of view of strategy -. We have experienced men, able to read the situation and make the most appropriate choices. We will certainly avoid being surprised by actions that I also expect from afar".

The European Road Cycling Championships are a relatively recent event: born in 1995 and initially reserved for Under-23s, since 2016 they have opened their doors to professionals, with Italy able to win four consecutive golds: Trentin in 2018, Viviani in 2019, Giacomo Nizzolo in 2020 and Sonny Colbrelli in 2021.
