Elena Curtoni, fracture of the sacrum
The condition of Elena Curtoni
Elena Curtoni, who fell during the women’s super-giant in St. Moritz, è underwent instrumental examinations at the “Gut Klinic” of the Helvetic resort, performed under the supervision of the FISI Medical Commission, which showed a compound bone fracture of the ’sacrum. The unfortunate Valtellinese will have to observe a few weeks of rest, at the end of which she will be re-evaluated again by the same Commission to determine the timing for resuming competitive activity.
“The super-G in St. Moritz, even in perfect conditions – said Sofia Goggia -, it è never easy. Today you had to put the speedà in the right sections and I think I did that. I started a little bit’ slow, as always, in the middle part where I made the difference, actually; I always felt a little bit’ long, but I was fast and I honestly didn’ t expect to win with 95 hundredths of advantage. When I got to the finish line I didn’t have the best feeling, I had to make it up along the course. The course in the giant l’ve had to take it by force, because I needed a more solid technical base. There’was the curiosity’ to start with speed, the rehearsals of the past few days went quite well, and now we have to go to the maximum both tomorrow and the day after tomorrow”.
“I am very angry – said Brignone -, becauseé I certainly would not have won the race today, but a place on the podium I could have taken. On the’last jump I went out too far to the right and I had to put myself on edge again and l’ve lost those 7 tenths that prevented me from taking the podium. I want to ski the way I know and today I couldn’t do it: today I wasn’t so fluid, I wasn’t 100%, it’s not the way I like to ski, I know I can do a lot better and that’s why I’m not happy.
“Let’s start with the assumption that Sofia made the difference today – said Marta Bassino – becauseé we have important gaps. I did not feel I was skiing soé well, it was not soé easy to find the compromise between speedé and hump, becauseé there was no visibilityé. Tomorrow I will doò the descent, in practice I did some sections quite well, we’ll see if I can put it all”.
