Paris 2024, World Athletics reiterates no to Russia and Belarus

World Athletics is not changing its mind né position and, despite today’s IOC decision, reaffirms its no to the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to athletics competitions.

In a note released at the end of its council meeting in Monte Carlo, World Athletics stresses that it has taken a different position: "All athletes, support staff and officials from Russia and Belarus are excluded from all World Athletics Series events and from hosting any international or European athletics event”.

“We will continue to monitor the situation, but unless there is a major change in circumstances between now and the Olympic Games, this exclusion will apply to Paris 2024".

"&It is up to the IOC to decide which countries are invited to participate in the Olympic Games,” concludes the note from the body chaired by Olympian Sebastian Coe, “but it is the responsibility of the IFs (international federations) to decide which athletes of their sport can compete"”
