Davis Cup, Lorenzo Sonego thanks Jannik Sinner: “A miracle.”
The account of the triumph from his perspective, and thanks to his colleague.
Lorenzo Sonego decided to recount the "his" Davis Cup on the sidelines of the presentation of the Ussi-Sportivo Piemontese of the Year Award. The Italian, after winning a decisive match against Chile in doubles, then paired up with Jannik Sinner in both the quarters and semifinals with the fearsome Netherlands and Serbia. And in his words è it is easy to guess how much gratitude he has for his South Tyrolean colleague.
"Winning the Davis Cup represented a real feat,” Sonego stressed, as also reported by the 'Corriere dello Sport' -We made history, and in the future everyone will remember us and what we did on the court. Our path è has been stupendous, also becauseé in previous years we had managed to come close but never all the way".
Then Sonego retraced Italy's path in the Davis Cup: "The most fearsome opponent was Serbia. We were aware of that, so much so that after the defeat in first singles and the three match points for them we were losing belief in ourselves. Sinner però performed a miracle and restored our confidence. We believed in it until the end, and we made it".
