Vincenzo Santopadre gets off the hook on Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini
Vincenzo Santopadre extols Jannik Sinner but does not forget Matteo Berrettini
Host of 'Sky Sport', former tennis player Vincenzo Santopadre commented on the current situation of Italian tennis, extolling in particular Jannik Sinner, a great protagonist of the season finale, without, however, forgetting Matteo Berrettini, from whom he è professionally separated while remaining on good terms.
"Jannik Sinner’s path was already channeled into the best possible track,” said Santopadre. Although he changed coaches è he remained true to himself, so his growth è was continuous and unrelenting. In my opinion Jannik represents the future of tennis: think about his serve, or the way he responds. And then he had a number 1" season finale.
On Berrettini: "The separation? There's been in the right way and the right time, everyone has their own path and it doesn't have to match forever. There are no expiration dates but the athlete has to follow his own path according to the stimuli he has. We both took a step back for many reasons, but our relationship è remained healthy".
As for the future of the 27-year-old Roman, who is coming from a decidedly negative season, Santopadre has confidence: "C’è was a concatenation of events that put a strain on Matteo’s head and physique, but he still has some good pages to write, he has to be in the top 20 in the world and he has all the cards to get back there. You don’t get to number 6 by accident".
