The words of Angelo Binaghi

The possibility that the Davis Cup will be played in Milan seems more and more concrete. The president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, Angelo Binaghi, confirmed the rumors of recent days in an interview with La Stampa, also revealing future plans.

"After 2025, Italy aims at the’pairing. Finals in Turin and Davis in Milan. We guarantee success, organization, investment and quality’in players. We have to be grateful to Turin, mine is not è just a wish: I am working so that after 2025 it will not remain without Finals. And if Milan, which è is the first competing city in this sense, will have the Davis Cup, we can also go further. And you canò even think about a mixed solution after 2027. It depends on the government, on the stake-holders and on certain conditions, but Italy right now does not have to fear anyone".

The possibility of Milan hosting the Davis Cup or ATP Finals is not merely a futuristic idea, but it is necessary to confront a very influential and wealthy possible opponent, namely Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have already snatched at the gates of the Lombard city the Next Gen ATP Finals, the final tournament of the year for the best players under the age of 21, organized in Milan from 2017 to 2022.

Such an investment could be just the beginning of a broader ambition, with the Arabs ready to invest heavily in tennis and determined to push further and further, perhaps targeting the Davis Cup or ATP Finals.
